HISTORY OF ECITATION
Bar

The software development began in 2002. The e-citation ticketing process was piloted in 2003 in Heflin, Alabama at the trucking weigh station. Phase 1 of the e-citation project was a fixed base location pilot at the weigh station. Phase 2 was a mobile pilot that used cell cards inserted in the laptops for connectivity. The e-citation is a stand alone application but uses the Internet to transmit the tickets. If there is no connectivity, the tickets are stored to be transmitted later. This successful pilot was followed by a statewide rollout to all motor carrier (MCSAP) state troopers. The product was so popular and successful that the project has expanded to general vehicle enforcement road troopers. As of the end of July 2007, ALL Alabama state troopers will be using eCitation.

There is also a municipal rollout going on currently. The first municipal pilot was with the Tuscaloosa PD in 2005. Several other municipalities have been deployed since that time. There are a large number of municipalities on the list currently awaiting deployment.
